My origin story

I grew up in the burbs of Edmonton and Toronto, then put 3 years toward an English honours degree before pivoting to Political Science.

I freelanced as a web designer for years. (So, yes, I can post to WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, and the rest.)

I drove across America in an overheating Honda Civic to pursue my Masters in Vancouver, then hung my hat in Nagano, Japan for 18 months. Boomeranging back to "The Van", I lived in the West End, 4 blocks from the beach.

While a Technical Writer at one of Canada's largest energy companies, I studied copywriting at BCIT and Simon Fraser University. Then re-crossed the Pacific to headhunt for Big Tech in Tokyo, my third Olympic host city.

Clients ranged from software and semiconductors to solar and steel. And that's just the S's. (Or, if you prefer, the esses.)

Shoot me a message for my portfolio or check out my less-detailed LinkedIn profile.

More about me?

I keep saying I'll read more biographies.

I love walkable cities.

I sold my car years ago and haven't owned an automobile since.

I got married and had 2 kids. We escaped Tokyo a year before social distancing became the norm.

My short story was published in an online literary journal in June '21. I've written 4 novels and published one. It's under a pen name, but just ask and I'll tell you.

I take pictures. Mostly of mundanery such as doors, awnings, and rust. And people and street art. But also flowers and sunsets. (Who doesn't love a good sunset?)

My photography slideshows were a regular part of a live jazz/hip-hop jam session in Tokyo. I put out a book of Tokyo mailboxes.

I'm also a:

  • big fan of the em-dash
  • work-at-home parent
  • below-knee amputee

People tell me I'm a great writer and storyteller. I'm good at cutting out the fluff—or adding it as requested.
